For children and young people who feel isolated and
culturally misunderstood by the surrounding them society.
Are you working with a young carer that comes from an Asian/British Asian background?
Children that come from multicultural families can often feel more isolated then any other young carers due to cultural or religious ways that they have been brought up with, especially if the parent’s first language is not English. There is also still great stigma within this community regarding issues of ill health, particularly in regards to mental ill health. This misconception can lead to a lack of support from services as there is the assumption that there are other family members available to give the carer a break.
By joining the services they will be able to:
-
Attend BYCAS fortnightly clubs and monthly outings
-
Get help to access local sport and leisure activities, giving them a chance to learn new skills and build their self-confidence.
-
Meet with our specialist staff and access counsellors at the clubs, giving them a chance to express their feelings or just have a chat and make sense of their situation.
-
We can also give advice to the family about other services in Barnet that can help them.
