BYCAS would like to warmly welcome Millie Henshaw-Devall to the team. Millie is our new Time 4 Us Support Officer. Some of our young carers have already met with Millie at BYCAS clubs.

We have just finished theme park season and took a grand total of 55 young carers and siblings to Thorpe Park. We had to make two trips as they would not all fit on to one coach.

For the first trip it rained all day and when you combine this amount of rain water with the soaking you get from the ‘Tidal Wave Ride’ then it is no surprise that most of the group were wet through to the bone.

The second group were luckier as it was sunny most of the day, and they were also better protected from the now infamous ‘Tidal Wave Ride’ having brought with them lots of water-proofs. The children enjoyed the trips and were eager to go again. We hope to make their wishes come true as soon as possible.

In July we had two BYCAS members doing work experience placements at Barnet Carers Centre. Kike and Ben showed great enthusiasm and willingness to learn during their time at the Centre.

They both experienced working in different areas including; reception and administration as well as accompanying me to a Learning Mentors Conference and joining in a support group in The Compton School where they made delicious chunky chocolate oat cookies! Kike and Ben also made an excellent August edition of the BYCAS Newsletter and Clacton beach flyer – Gary watch out!
