Get ready for Young Carers Awareness Day!

In the last week couple of weeks the Young Carers Awareness Team have been busy promoting Young Carers Awareness Day!

The Young Carers Support Team have been doing assemblies to make pupils aware of who young carers are and the support they can receive. They have also been training school staff to help with identification and support of young carers in school. Schools in the London Borough of Barnet have been emailed about Young Carers Awareness Day and sent posters to help raise awareness. Barnet Young Carers Team support schools with the Young Carers in Schools Programme.

Young Carers in Schools is a free initiative in England and Wales that makes it as easy as possible for schools to support young carers, and awards good practice. Please go to to get involved.

Last week the team presented at the Barnet Practitioner Forum talking to approximately 100 people from various agencies / schools. Posters and handouts were given to all to use on Young Carers Awareness Day to spread the word in the community about the support that Young Carers and their families can receive. Presentations also took place during the week at the London Borough of Barnet CAF Practitioner meeting and council’s Young Carers Awareness training.

The Young Carers Team will continue to promote support services on Young Carers Awareness Day. Please come and see us at Barnet Hospital between 10am – Midday and 2-4pm on Thursday 25 January.

We will also be at Barnet and Southgate College (High Barnet Campus) between 11.30am – 2pm to raise awareness to pupils attending the college.
