Dysphagia Awareness Training

Barnet Council are currently offering dysphagia training. This training would be beneficial for anyone who supports adults with learning disabilities, has trouble eating or drinking, or supports someone who regularly coughs, chokes or has frequent chest infections.

The course aims to help people understand:

The basic anatomy of the swallow and how normal swallowing works
The warning signs of food and drink going down the wrong way
What can go wrong with the swallow of people with Learning Disabilities
The causes of aspiration pneumonia
The importance of oral care
Why and how we modify textures of food and drink
The significance of good positioning and posture
The roles of people within the Multidisciplinary team in dysphagia management

Dates: Wednesday 19th April 2017
Monday 15th May 2017 – half day refresher
Thursday 29th June 2017
Monday 11th September 2017
Monday 16th October 2017 – half day refresher
Thursday 30th November 2017

Time: 9:30am – 4:00pm
